Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Best pick I've ever used! You can definitely tell a difference in the way your instrument sounds. Will never use another pick. Definitely recommend it.

I got a Blue Chip Pick

Posted by Denise on 2nd Sep 2020

I want it to be blue for some reason. I made a little leather pouch to keep it safe. I always wanted my own. I will name him George and I will love and pet him and squeeze him...

    Best pick I have found

Posted by Aviv Naamani on 31st Aug 2020

I have to use large triangular picks because I have fingernails for fingerstyle guitar. The CT 55 gives me the best balance between control and tone that I have found. I can use it for jazz on my archtop or Bluegrass on my dreadnought. Slightly heavier picks are a bit unwieldy for me and the lighter picks are lacking in tone to my ears.

    Incredible feel and gliding playability!

Posted by Ken Stewart on 20th Aug 2020

The CT 55 feels great between my thumb and index fingers, glides smoothly across the strings of my acoustic & electric guitars, and produces an unparalleled tone. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Like my dad always said you’ll never listen to me try it for yourself

I have heard about this pic before I also heard about the price tag and Was very hesitant one day for some reason I decided to purchase one curiosity mostly I do a lot of playing and writing on acoustic instruments and wow I have been a musician for 35 years and have used many different styles of pics but wow I have been nothing less than impressed I feel the sound it really is hard to describe but once you feel one play one and hear one I am sure you will be sold I have not been disappointed and within all reality it really probably was the cheapest thing I ever did buy for my guitar since then I have purchased at least five for myself and friends

    Delightful picks!

Posted by Justin on 6th Aug 2020

I recently bought a CT 55. This was a big change for me. I have been using Jazz iii style picks for a dozen years. With the CT 55 I feel like the world is opening up for me.

    A Game Changer

Posted by Mike on 22nd Jul 2020

I picked up the mandolin about two years ago after playing guitar for over 15, so naturally, I took my guitar picks with me. Using a nylon 1.14mm guitar pick it was familiar, and comfortable, and I thought everything was fine. Then, I read up on mandolin picks and how integral to tone they can be . I never really experienced a dramatic change with any guitar pick before, I thought it was all marketing. Still, I picked up this CT-55 and I have to say not only is my tone vastly improved - rounder, fuller, less tinny - but the shape and beveled edge noticeably made flat picking faster and cleaner. I have to say, I never thought a pick would have such an immediate and noticeable impact on my sound and technique, but it actually did and I am never going back!

    Volume increase

Posted by Nathan Klark on 8th Jul 2020

This is the second CT 55 I have owned. I lost the first one (or my toddler took) and was mainly playing with my SR50. I love the SR50 but have a hard time getting the volume I am after with it so when they offered free shipping and engraving for fathers day I treated myself and purchased a replacement. I still go back and forth but definitely notice more volume with the CT55 but prefer the SR50 for tremolo and playing solo. I would like to get the SR60 and see if it will give me all that I am after but overall I am very pleased with both the CT55 and SR50. They are definitely worth the money to me. I have Wegen's and Dunlops also but the Bluechip sound is far superior to my ear.

    A real game changer:

Posted by Daniel DiPaola on 6th Jul 2020

The CT-55 has changed my playing for the better. This pick has also improved my tone and articulation. I wouldn’t have believed that a pick could achieve this, but it’s true. Since purchasing the CT-55 I tried several “look-alike” picks, but there was no comparison in tone and feel.
