Product Description

This is our JD Crowe style dobro/resonator thumb pick in a size large. This is a slightly thicker blade design as compared to our banjo picks to withstand the more strenuous use on a dobro. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 60/1000 of an inch(1.50mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

This is my go to for both banjo and dobro. Best picks out there. Great tone. Last forever.

  3. blue chip picks are the best 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Jan 2018

I have osteoarthritis in my right hand and trying different picks from different makers. They all were good but the blue chip is the best. The size is large so I can hold on to it. No pick noise and the pick glides off the strings with ease and tone. Best pick I’ve ever used. Also using hybrid picking works great. The perfect pick.

  4. My favorite thumbpick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2017

I've used this thumbpick for about five years and am completely happy with it. It's extremely durable and very comfortable.
After five years, the thumbpick edge had worn down a bit, so that I couldn't dig in as aggressively as I sometimes needed. So, I got a new one and am good for another five years.
I use this for lap style resonator guitar, BTW.

  5. Great Product 5 Star Review

These picks last much longer than plastic thumb picks. I wish they would make some of the same pick with a Poly- Amide-Imide blade.
It lasts longer, sounds brighter, and slips off the strings better.

  7. Awesome Pick for Banjo 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Mar 2016

I recently purchased the BCT-JDL to use with my banjo. I tried it out and loved the fit, but I felt the tone wasn't as full as I was getting with my plastic Dunlop. I called BlueChip and explained my situation and I decided to try out the thicker BCT-RESO-BTL, with the intention of sending one or both back if I was unhappy with them. I ordered the RESO and tried both picks out while I had them both, and I could hear a definite increase in the fullness of my tone with the RESO over the regular JDL.

I sent the regular JDL back and kept the RESO to use as my banjo thumbpick and I've been using it every day since.

Problems I used to have with plastic thumbpicks include:
    -Scraping noise
    -Friction on the strings
-Thumb would turn blue and go numb due to a too-tight fit
-Pick would slip around due to a too-loose fit
-Discomfort after playing for long periods of time
-Worn edge would require pick replacement after a couple weeks
-Worn edge would require adjustments in my picking
    -Band would catch on strings

Every single one of those issues is now resolved. I know the RESO-JDL is designed for a dobro, but I prefer it for a banjo over the regular JDL because I play heavy-handedly and need the extra thickness to get the comfort and tone I want. And the RESO -JDL delivers!

  8. Feels like your Thumb 5 Star Review

It's just fun to play with and produces a great full tone it.

  9. Thumbpick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th May 2015

Bluechip has created the perfect thumbpick here. The thickness is perfect for my playing, and I use it mainly on my harp guitar. I can switch from playing bass patterns on my subs to playing fast picked lines without having to adjust my hand position. Feels great, sounds great!

  10. GREAT THUMBPICK 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jun 2013

Yes, I've tried many but far from all. However, when they're this good how much better can they be? Do these last forever? They are literally like the Energizer bunny only better. They are comfortable as all get out. They sound great...they blah, blah,blah...you get the picture. I've got three and I think that's overkill. I will get more if I can wear one out or maybe before in case I lose one. Same as for the "regular" picks. And yes this is a glowing review
