Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size medium. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard medium thumb pick of any brand.

  1. Another Satisfied Customer - JD Crowe model 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Mar 2018

I was quite skeptical about all the stuff I had heard about the pick. Probably because of the price tag. I was wrong. it took a few sessions to get used to because of the shorter blade and the fit not cutting off the circulation in my thumb. After that it just works, stays put and has a nice sound.

  2. spend the money! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Mar 2018

I was somewhat skeptical about buying this pick, it is expensive. However, I'd spend more for the quality of tone, fit, and responsiveness that this pick gives. After trying numerous styles of thumbpicks {metal, plastic, etc] this is without a doubt worth every penny paid. Thank you for a superior product.

  3. Awesome Thumb pick 5 Star Review

I absolutely love the BCT-JDM thumb pick designed to JD Crowe’s own specifications. I first ordered a size large and used for a couple of weeks. I have changed my diet so have been losing weight, so The large became too big. So i ordered a medium. I never even considered trying a different brand of a thumb pick when I knew I had to get a smaller size. The size of the pick that hits the strings is perfect. It stays on finger great and makes it easier to hit the strings.
Thanks Bluechip Picks! I’ll be a lifetime customer

  4. Love this Russ Carson model. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Jan 2018

I have used the regular JD medium thumbpick previously and liked it. I thought that I would try the new Russ Carson model which has a different pick shape. I like the Carson model even more!
For now, order the BCT-JD(size) and in the Comments state that you want the Russ Carson model. Same price as regular.

  5. What they said. 5 Star Review

I was a skeptic, having used Nationals and Dunlops for decades... I even got good at boiling them in hot water to bend them around to fit better and not have an edge hanging out waiting to grab a string. Blue Chip eliminated that with the bendable metal band that fits perfectly and doesn’t slip. Had to get used to the thickness (lack thereof, really), but the SNAP it gives me made it well worth getting used to.

  6. Strong attack and no slips 5 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Jan 2018

I loved my blue chip thumb pick the minute I first put it on. Unlike the plastic ones I've used for decades, this one stays put. That and the rigid material the pick is made out of really help my attack to be stronger.

  8. The Best Picks Available 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Sep 2016

I've been using Blue Chip picks for several years and they are hands down the best picks on the market and well worth the money.
I've been trying to find a thumb pick that I can use in certain situations and have never been able to find one that is comfortable and the right length. I reached out to Blue Chip and requested that they custom make one for me with blade that is only 3/16" long. They did a great job and shipped it out one day later. It's just what I've been looking for. The only problem is the fear of losing it!
I can't say enough about Blue Chip products, staff and delivery, they are the best.

  9. Because I Can 4 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Sep 2016

The best playing thumbpick ever seems to go with the most expensive ever. I'm on my 4th one. Yes, the tips DO wear, albeit about 10 times slower than any conventional plastic thumbpick. I have sent two of them after heavy use to Bluechip. They politely polished the tips back to original shape leaving the pick only slightly shorter than the original. (No, I do not touch the abrasive banjo head with my thumb pick. The wear is simply from draging across the strings.)
Will I continue buying them? Yes!
Why? Right now, "Because I Can!"
And they DO play really nice!

  10. hesitant at first, then I fell headfirst into the blue-chip swimming pool 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Sep 2016

I was very hesitant on spending $40 for a thumb pick, but once I used it I have grown to like it very much. The design of the pick is very well put together and it is very sturdy. It has increased my playing speed and it fits a lot more comfortable on my thimb. I play a lot of shows outdoors and those plastic thumb picks want to slide around on my thumb on those hot Days and I have to change them periodically. But with the blue-chip pick, it stays where I put it . Great product . Now if you guys can come up with a finger pick that stays where you put it I will be set. But remember you have to give me a discount for giving you the idea ha ha
